“…For wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. The LORD do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me.” (Ruth 1:16-17)
Did you know there are only two books in the Bible named after women? While one is often studied and discussed for her bravery in saving the Jews, the other doesn’t quite get the recognition she deserves.
Yes, the story of Esther has all the elements of a great novel…a young beauty who not only becomes a Queen, but a queen who God would use to save a nation. But Ruth, the humble widow, shows us what true love and loyalty looks like.
In saying this, Ruth was giving up all she had to follow the one true God, and to stay by the side of her sad (and bitter) mother-in-law. After a few bumps along the road (read the Book of Ruth! It’s so good!), God would then go on to redeem her through her husband Boaz, and give birth to Obed, the father of Jesse, who is the father of David.
My prayer is that we as believers don’t miss out on the blessings God would have for us, because we do not fully give ourselves to Him. That we would be as loyal to Him as Ruth was. And that we would love Him and worship him, our true Redeemer, every day, with all our hearts.
