A Prayer for Today

“My heart rejoices in the Lord; My strength is exalted in the Lord. I smile at my enemies, because I rejoice in Your Salvation. No one is holy like the Lord, for there is none besides you, nor is there any rock like our God. Talk no more so very proudly; Let no arrogance come from your mouth, For the Lord is the God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.” (1 Samuel 2:1-3)

This beautiful, convicting, relevant and timely prayer was written by Samuel’s mother, Hannah, in 722 B.C. (722 B.C.!) It is so easy to become anxious and fearful in these days of turmoil. Our country desperately needs a revival, and sometimes it may feel like God’s might is out of reach.

But….our hearts should “rejoice in the Lord!” We should “Rejoice in our Salvation”, because there is no rock like our God. He will never leave us. He will never forsake us. He is the almighty God of miracles and wonders, and is also the God who hears our cries and comforts us. Rest easy, fellow believers, and have faith. God is in control!

So often when I’d like awake in my cell and ask myself if God is in control why did he allow this allegation to land me in jail for so many years and be taken from my family, lose my pension. And now as a child of God I understand that nothing happens to God’s children without coming through him so all was for his Glory that I believe he needed to work on me and have my attention in the wilderness for the plans he had for me to do. Lord help me to be sensitive to your guiding spirit today, lead me Lord Amen.
