“The Lord will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem; the earth and the heavens will tremble. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people, a stronghold for the people of Israel.” (Joel 3:16)
Listening to the news brings a heavy cloud that I would sometimes rather avoid. Between the natural disasters, foreign affairs, sexual harassment cases, and every day crime reporting, it seems like the sky is falling!
As you read the book of Joel, the writings seem like they could be describing our world today. Natural disasters destroying lands, people turning away from God, wars breaking out, and people getting abused. Reading through this chapter can leave a dark cloud over you. But, just as God usually does, He has Joel end the book with a chapter that reminds us of Who God is. He is our refuge and stronghold.
We will witness disasters and live in a world where “the sky is falling,” but we do not have to live in fear. God is our refuge, a hiding place where we can experience peace, truth, and love. Take refuge in your Savior and trust in His unfailing love.
