“Sustain me according to your word that I may live. And, do not let me be ashamed of my hope.”(Psalm 119:116)
The word of God is living and powerful. It is our guide for life and our answer to all of life’s perplexing questions. It reveals to us the hopelessness of our life mired in the quagmire of sins and disobedience. It shows us the way to a new life of forgiveness and redemption through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who is our HOPE. The psalmist rightly said we should not be ashamed of our hope and always ready to give an explanation of that hope to others.
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. And he who is wise wins souls.”(Proverbs 11:30) We have been made righteous and given life by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. It is like a tree of life that we can freely share with others. It is the means to a spirit of wisdom, which gives us the boldness to tell others the good news and to win souls for Christ. Jesus, himself, told His followers to go into all the world and make disciples.
Jesus said, “For whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes into the glory of His father with the holy angels.”(Mark 8:38) Having it all by worldly standards is really nothing at all if we are ashamed of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus, in fact, asked the question, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?”(Mark 8:36) The bottom line is that as Christians, we need to unashamedly make known our allegiance to the Lord Jesus Christ through word and actions so that others may experience the glorious privilege of being a fellow citizen in God’s family. We are not ashamed of our hope, which is Jesus Christ and it is wise to win souls for the heavenly kingdom.
