“Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.” (Psalm 42:7)
Here I sit in front of the ocean this morning, listening and watching the waves come in. The crash of the breakers try to drown the sound of nearby birds and the roar of the water is relentless. It does not stop and one wave after another lines up to be delivered to the shore. If I were in the water, it would be a chore to stand stable in the sand because the force of each wave is very powerful. Not only that, but there is the underwater tide, drawing the water back to the sea.
Looking over the waves toward the ocean, I know that the serenity of the picture covers the depths of the waters. Even the horizon, as far as I can see, beckons toward deep waters, inviting exploration. What a morning to breathe in!
The Lord’s hand on His creation forever carves out a personal invitation for us to take another step with Him. To taste of His goodness and capture a glimpse of His glory is what I want to do this day. Just as I will never scour the ocean floor fully with its amazing uniqueness, I will never in this lifetime be able to fully experience the vastness of the Lord Himself. That’s what eternity is for! As a great believer once wrote, “It will take all of time and eternity to fully understand the infinite Lord Jesus.”
But still His invitation for us continues, calling daily, even moment by moment for intimacy with us. Hear His waves crashing, His waters speaking to your heart today, “Come, child into My presence. Walk with Me. Listen to Me. Sense Me!” Breathe in and rest in the knowledge that the King of the Universe is calling your name. Now, take a simple step of response, and say, “I hear You, Lord”…and wait, as long as it takes to be refreshed and renewed by His waters that speak life for you today.
