Do I Know Who I Am?

“For he chose us in Him before the creation of the world…” (Ephesians 1:4)

Have you ever had one of those conversations with a highly intelligent person which left you thinking, “You know, I never thought of that before?” Consider yourself fortunate indeed, if you have one of those interchanges once in a lifetime! I just had one of those privileged interactions. It was in a conversation with my two-year-old granddaughter. It was exactly like this.

Jumping up on our bed, she found her way to a seat high above my head as she sat on my chest and began to talk about what she wanted to do for the day. I couldn’t help myself smile and say, “You are so articulate!” Her immediate response without missing a beat was, “No, I not. I a mermaid!” Needless to say, I was glad to have that settled…

Think about that for a moment. Do you know who you are? I mean, really, know who you are? That’s an important question to answer with immediate clarity. As a child of the King, we are told all through the Scriptures exactly who we are. Sadly, too many listen to the voices of others, which in their minds carry great weight and power. Hearing phrases still in their minds as adults, uttered years ago to them as children, occupy their emotional energy and take them nowhere.

However, the Lord wants you to know who you are. He says we are chosen! Let your mind dwell on that for a moment and embrace the power of those words. “Chosen!” You and I were picked to be on His team. In His draft, you were first choice. When someone says something to you today and it’s not what you expected they would say because it created instability in your heart, remember this: The King of the universe chose you. Settle that once and for all!
