“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)
There are moments in life when we do not operate off of any agenda or previous plan. We are just existing, floating through life, taking things as they come, and seemingly without a care in the world. Such a drift leads to “wheels spinning” and little traction to get anywhere. When we are in that mode of operation, our lives lose a sense of vitality and purpose. Though it might seem like a vacation from reality for a while, in the end, we find ourselves disconnected and sometimes feeling a loss of equilibrium. Just rolling with the flow is not God’s plan for your life! He made you with a purpose in mind, a destiny to fulfill, a life to be lived to the fullest! So, engage…but, engage with a plan.
The scripture is clear here: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do…” Today, you are setting in motion your drive to accomplish something. Strategically, you are headed some place with a purpose in mind. Though it may seem menial, we are to work “as unto the Lord.” Therefore, in prayer today, commit to the Lord your work, your task, all of your effort. But what does that actually mean? Surely, it is not saying, “OK, Lord…I’m doing this. So, please bless it. Amen!” It means to mindfully offer your plans and all of your dreams for this day to His perusal and His insight. Offering your agenda to God declares that you are open for His approval or His rebuke.
Committing your plan to the Lord does mean you must wait on Him to give His answer. That answer will come, if you will listen with your “ears within.” As a believer in Jesus, the Holy Spirit indwells you and will give you the “go ahead” or the “wait a minute” nudge within. Learn to wait upon Him. And while you are waiting, get into the Word!
Committing your plans to the Lord means you are willing to operate by His principles and guidelines. God would never approve of our direction if it is in violation of His Word. God’s Word is available to guide you as you read and meditate upon it. Like a desert, in thirst of water, receive the Word expectantly as you read and watch what will happen in your life…even today. Just like a desert which receives moisture at the right season, you will blossom with green growth almost immediately. Your initial plan may actually be enhanced and improved as you allow His Word to take root. When that happens, you can be confident that your plan has a heavenly stamp of approval…and that’s the very best guarantee of all!
