“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” – Matthew 24:36

While Jesus was on earth, He promised His people that He was going to return one day. Jesus talked about this second coming during one of His many conversations with His disciples. He said, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Matthew 24:36). In other words, even Jesus doesn’t know when He will come back to earth. He is still waiting for His Father’s command to do so.

Later on after Jesus had ascended into heaven, Paul wrote a description of how the second coming will take place. He says, “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

If you are a follower of Jesus, you will be among those who He is coming back for so you can be with Him forever. However, if you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior when He returns, you will not rise with the rest of His followers when He returns.

If you want to spend eternity in heaven with Jesus, and if you want to be among the group that Jesus returns for, you must make the decision to surrender your life to Him and become a follower of Christ.

Scripture makes it clear that nobody has any idea of the day or time Jesus is actually going to return, but we do know that every day we are getting closer to Him coming back. Just because we don’t know when Jesus will come back doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be prepared for His return. The best way to prepare for the second coming is to make the decision to follow Jesus. My prayer is that if you have not already done so, you would place your faith in Him today.
