“If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.” (Psalm 34:18)
I was fortunate to grow up in a neighborhood with lots of kids. We would gather in a back yard or across the street in a park to play kick ball. I loved it. There were a few times when I remember standing at second base and a line drive ball was kicked right to me, and punched me right in the gut. It knocked the wind out of me and I had a hard time catching my breath.
As I grew older, I stopped playing kick ball, but life happens and there are times when I feel like I have been punched in the gut. Watching the news, and hearing about horrific acts of violence can give you a feeling of being punched in the gut. A heart breaks sitting next to a loved one who is battling with disease. A broken heart; who hasn’t experienced a broken heart? Has something happened in your life to make you feel like you’ve been kicked in the gut? What great news to know that God is right there, helping you to catch your breath.
