Standing on the Word

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

I had the opportunity of being pastor on the Space Coast of Florida years ago. Privileged to have a church full of NASA engineers and scientists, I noticed something which was hard to overlook. They loved developing manuals! They developed manuals for every procedure imaginable at the Kennedy Space Center. When I had an idea for a new ministry, I could always count on one of our Space Center engineers in our church to help me develop a detailed plan. They were amazing…and still are!

For the believer, the Bible is our manual on how to do life. It outlines everything we need on how to relate to others, serve others, and worship God. Describing everything the Lord wants us to know and apply to our lives, we can count on the Word of God without hesitation. Completely reliable, historical and scientifically accurate where it speaks, we can boldly stand on its claims to secure our lives both now and for all eternity.

The real question is this today: Are we using the Bible like God intended for us to use it? Has it become your guide and operational manual, or is it only collecting dust on your coffee table or bookshelf? Reread the verse today and ask yourself if you are using the Word of God for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training? In order to engage here means we are actually students of the Bible, not being content to live off the fumes of someone else’s gleaning and insight.

In fact, devotional reading should only be a “jump start” to your engine. It needs the real fuel from the inspired pages of Scripture! Stand here, with a commitment to living your life based on biblical directives and you will stand securely in every moment of your life, regardless of the weather!
