“The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain. Break camp and advance into the hill country…’ ”(Deuteronomy 1:6-7)
Under Moses’ leadership, Israel had been given orders to move forward. They had stayed long enough where they had been. It was time to move forward and receive what God had for them…and that would be a real battle. It’s easy for us to stay put, especially in comfortable places with familiar people. Moving forward is never easy because we like to stay put, in our comfort zone where there is no risk, and no chance of failure. Sadly, most people fail because they won’t risk the chance of being successful; all they can see is failure.
How do you know when you have been in a place spiritually too long? We aren’t talking about a physical location, but rather an emotional place, a spiritual place, or possibly a sedentary place. Remember, even if you move to a different place, you will always meet yourself, the same old self there. Moving forward physically is always easier than moving spiritually.
Some people change churches, jobs, and sadly families, thinking it will be better in the next location. It’s not long before you realize you moved the wrong thing. You didn’t move the inside part of you; it’s still stagnant. You know you have stayed too long in the same place if all you can see is what is wrong with others instead of yourself. If you are playing the blame game, stop in your tracks before you dig a deeper hole.
When you long for God to do a fresh work in your life this year, ask Him for the next steps. He is already way ahead of you and is beckoning you to enter into one of the most exciting times of your life. That exciting time is all about having faith, and trusting Him every step of the way. Who knows what He has planned for you and your family this next year? He does. Choose to stand up, approach the starting line and begin the race. It’s not His plan for you to remain stuck in complacency any longer.
