“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
Aren’t we grateful that God uses people to spread the word about Himself and His love for us? The vast majority of us wouldn’t have known about God, and most likely wouldn’t have placed our faith in Jesus, if we had not been told about Him by someone else. Whether it was a parent, a grandparent, a sibling, a friend, a pastor, or a coworker; more than likely it was someone you knew who led you to the Lord.
On the flip side, someone may be exposed to the Gospel for the first time as a result of your telling them about Jesus. You may be the only Christian someone ever comes to know. While it is a privilege and an honor to represent the Lord in that way, it’s also a great responsibility that we shouldn’t take lightly.
We should be mindful that every one of our words, actions, and reactions serve as an opportunity for us to point others to Christ. We are being watched and observed as representatives of our Savior, so let’s do our best to be a light to everyone around us. Just like God used someone in your life to expose you to His love and grace, He can utilize you to show that same love and grace to someone else. What a blessing it is that God wants to use us to expand His kingdom!
