And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
We know what it’s like to ask God for something we really want. Some of us are praying for healing from a disease. Some of us are praying for our children. Some of us are praying for redemption in broken relationships. Whatever it is, I am sure you pray every day, hoping that you’ll get the answer you desire.
If the answer doesn’t come, you get frustrated and impatient. Contrary to what you might think, you can’t pull the wool over God’s eyes. Just because you get emotional, cry, beg, and plead doesn’t mean God is going to automatically answer your prayers. You’re not going to manipulate God because He knows you very well. He knows your heart. He knows your intentions. And He ultimately knows what is best for you. That answer might be different from what you’re asking God to give you right now.
It’s a hard pill to swallow to consider that what you’re asking for might never come. If you can trust that God knows what is best for you, you’ll learn to trust that His methods, blessings, and timing will always exceed your expectations and your desires.
In light of all of this, this is my encouragement to you. Don’t try to manipulate God. Don’t think you can trick Him into giving you what you want. Instead, go to Him in prayer with a humble heart and open hands. When you pray, seek to align your will with God’s perfect will. Ask Him to give you His best, rather than just giving you what you want. Trust that He will always come through for you according to His great will and plan for your life.
