Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. (Psalm 150:6)
If we are living and breathing, Scripture commands us to always be praising the Lord. We should praise Him not just because He deserves it, but also because we benefit from praising Him.
As you are praising God, not only are you inviting Him to come near, but you are also being reminded of God’s presence. Many of us become very forgetful of God’s presence, especially when despair and discouragement hit our lives. When it seems like a hand grenade has hit our situation and it affects us financially, physically, or relationally; we lose our equilibrium. You need to be reminded of God’s presence because He hasn’t left you. You need to remember that He is there, and when you do, He brings peace.
Another benefit of praising the Lord is that praise brings order to your life. If you think things are out of control in your life, you need to praise God. When there are situations outside your ability to fix, you need to praise the Lord. If you think you are in a hopeless situation, think again; because we don’t have a hopeless God. You have a God who can change hearts and minds, situations, lifestyles, and directions in your life. When you begin to praise Him, adore Him, and glorify Him, your problems become really small. You will see who He really is; He is really big!
Wherever you are in your life right now, don’t hesitate to praise the Lord, not only out of obedience, but also because you will reap the benefits of praise offered by your Heavenly Father.
