The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting. He said, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘When anyone among you brings an offering to the Lord, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock.’ ”
God spoke to Moses and he heard Him clearly. With explicit directions for a specific people for a definite task, he was given orders to deliver a message from God. Year after year and day after day, Moses remained faithful to represent the Lord to His people. This was an awesome privilege, while at the same time a critical responsibility to accomplish. He had to listen before he spoke. Then he was directed to tell others the things spoken to him. The first step of listening is essential.
How important is it for you to listen to God today? It is extremely critical! Like the responsibility that Moses had, it is just as important for you today. As children of God, we speak for Him, both in our actions and our words. So, we must get it right the first time. For Moses, the Tent of Meeting was being at the right place at the right time. For you and me, it is very important to be in the right frame of mind and place. We must start by blocking out the world and its cares to allow us to hear the voice of the Lord.
How does God speak to us today? The Bible is a closed system. No new Scriptures are being written today. God is still speaking through His Word; our problem is that we rarely open the Bible and give Him time to speak to us. Sometimes, we avoid God’s Word because we know there is sin in our lives, and we are not ready to confess and turn away from that sin. We just don’t want to be reminded of the things we need to do. At other times, we occupy ourselves with projects, instead of sitting at the feet of Jesus, hungry for a fresh word for our dry souls.
He will speak to us through His Word, the Bible; we just need to go there. Don’t allow a devotional, any devotional writing, to substitute for the Word of God. Devotional encouragement is valuable, but it is not the inspired Word of God! We need to listen to His voice through the Scriptures. Go there right now with the ears of your heart wide open!
