Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16)
Intercession is one of the greatest powers we have as followers of Jesus. Unfortunately, we rarely tap into it. When we are praying and interceding in the lives of the people around us, incredible things happen.
Sadly, many of us try to take too much into our own hands, especially when trying to save or change other people. We think if we talk to them enough, give them a good pitch, and bring them to church enough times, they will eventually turn away from their sin and accept Christ. When we rely on our own efforts (and those efforts don’t achieve the desired result), we become frustrated and discouraged.
For people who don’t know Christ personally, we should earnestly pray for them and never give up on them. It is not up to us to change people; that is the job only the Holy Spirit can accomplish. Our job is to intercede on their behalf, asking the Lord to soften their hearts and make Himself known to them.
Even when someone seems like they are a lost cause, they are never out of the Father’s reach. There is always hope. Never give up on your family, friends, coworkers, or your neighbors. God loves every single one of them as much as He loves you. He loves when you pray that these people will turn away from sin and turn toward Him.
