Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. (Colossians 4:2)

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

We have experienced times when life didn’t go as planned. Maybe it was a relationship that ended out of the blue, or you received an unexpected diagnosis. Maybe, you didn’t get a certain job you were hoping to obtain. Whatever the case may be, we can all agree that our plans don’t always turn out the way we hoped. Remember, when we are facing these unexpected circumstances, God can use any situation for our good and for the good of so many others.

Let’s take Paul, for example. You would think God would have chosen to use Paul as a traveling evangelist over the course of his life. Instead, God allowed him to be confined in a prison. While Paul was in prison, he had the time and the ability to write to so many people who needed his ministry. Not only that, but his letters make up the majority of our New Testament!

I don’t think Paul had any idea that his life would turn out the way it did. There were probably many times when Paul thought that he was on the back burner. In reality, he was actually on the front burner, doing exactly what God wanted him to do with his life. God can do the exact same thing for you, too. If you are in a season right now where life didn’t go as planned, you might be wondering what to do next. Ask God to give you the wisdom to recalibrate your plans. His plans are always so much greater than any we could formulate on our own. There is no telling what He might have in store for you, if you are willing to surrender to Him and pursue the plan He has for your life.

With only the choice of following his plan I will and have humbly surrendered my path to him.

Life does indeed not always go as planned, but it is God’s plan and timing that we need to be mindful of during those “times” of doubt and fear. As Paul was in prison, we sometimes feel as if we are also, mainly a prisoner of circumstance or the world. As Christians we should strive to take what we have in the moment, just like Paul, and make the best of it and do the work that God has laid out before us. Never losing faith and keeping our eyes upon the prize of Heaven!

Help me to follow your plan Father and surrender to thy Will. My plan has often went off course, but your plan never does. Thank you JESUS.
