“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19)
Here it is, the end of the year and a new one is about to begin! This year (which was a new year twelve months ago) is about to be in the past. Instead of something to be looked forward to, it will be something you put in your memory. Maybe those memories of what has happened in your life have gone from one extreme to the other. Possibly, your year was filled with great blessings of new beginnings, while at the same time, great sorrow. It seems that each year has a bit of both for each of us; that is why we always look forward to a new year with its new opportunities.
As you peer into the New Year, what will keep you from experiencing all the blessings God has for you? Without a doubt, it is not seeing what God is initiating, even right before you. Even though our physical eyes (if working properly) can see shapes and colors, they are limited to the time and space of God’s tangible creations. However, there is another kind of sight which is very powerful indeed. It is the ability to discern what God has placed before your physical eyes with spiritual insight.
How do you open those spiritual eyes? First, you must be born again. The new birth provides new spiritual insight. You see and understand the Bible much differently now; it is a gold mine to you and not an empty hole, like you once saw. Second, you need to work in the gold mine. Spend time reading the Word of God with the expectation of what He will show you. Don’t read so quickly just to say you finished a chapter or a book. Instead, sift through the Scriptures like an archeologist, on a mission to uncover the past for present and future purposes.
Third, pray, pray, and then pray some more! Make your prayer life a priority. If you want to see a new way through the wilderness of your life and drink from fresh streams in your desert times, always seek an audience with the King. His throne room is always open and He desires for you to see the new things He is doing right now before your very eyes! Open those spiritual eyes!
