Ministry Happens in the Mess of Real Life
"Just as a nursing mother cares for her children, so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well." (1 Thessalonians 2:7-8)
What makes ministry real? Is it polished programs? Perfect theology? Large crowds? None of those things.
Ministry happens in relationships. It's messy. It's personal. It's about pouring your life into others.
Paul was only in Thessalonica for about a month, yet he built relationships so deep that years later, he could write them with passion and longing. He didn't just deliver information—he shared his life. He worked night and day to avoid being a burden. He encouraged them like a father with his children. He loved them like a nursing mother cares for her babies.
That's ministry. Not standing at a distance delivering spiritual truths, but getting close enough to let people see your life—the struggles, the prayers, the faithfulness through hard seasons.
One of the greatest blessings I've experienced during my wife's illness has been people asking, "How's Ginger?" They let me know they're praying. Honestly, I'd rather hear that you're praying for my family than hearing "Great sermon, pastor." Knowing you care about my life—that's ministry.
You're not called to sit in church and soak it all in. You're not here to collect spiritual facts to underline in your Bible. God calls you to be involved in the lives of His children. They need your encouragement. They need your intercession. They need you to be there with them.
This isn't a committee assignment where you rotate in and out. Ministry is for life. You're all in, completely involved, pouring yourself out for others. When you give your life to Christ, something changes—you want to volunteer. You want to be involved. You'll do whatever He tells you to do, wherever He tells you to go.
God has placed you exactly where you are for a reason. Follow where He's leading your heart to do ministry. Share not just the Gospel, but your life as well.
