Denominational Tags Fall Off
"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." — Galatians 3:28
Do you struggle to love believers who are different from you?
I love saying this and I have said it for years. When we get to heaven, there will not be Methodists over here in one corner. Roman Catholics will not be over there, with the charismatics over here jumping pews. There will not be a bunch of Baptists by the River of Life over there. There won't be Presbyterians who are afraid to get too close to the water because they're afraid the Baptists will dunk them. There will not be a bunch of Church of Christ people saying, "What are these people doing up here?"
That tag of denominationalism will either fall off in heaven or burn off in hell!
We struggle to love other believers. We draw dividing lines with other denominations. Maybe you love the people in your denomination, but not someone outside your denomination.
Here's the truth: There are people in the Catholic church who know Jesus. There are Lutherans who know Jesus. There are Baptists who know Jesus—and some who don't live like they do.
As long as they love Christ and they have been converted, they are your brother and sister in Christ. You will live in eternity with them.
Years ago, someone said, "To dwell with the saints above, that will be glory. But to live below with the saints we know, that is another story."
God wants us here and now to have a love for our brothers and sisters regardless of where they came from. Regardless of where they are now, as long as they have given their lives to Christ, you need to accept them. God loves them. They may not see things exactly like you do, but you need to cut them some slack. They are probably cutting you some slack, too.
The only thing that will make a difference for all eternity is whether or not you have turned from sin and placed your faith in Jesus Christ as Lord of your life.
Love believers. All of them. The tags don't matter. Jesus does.
