Your Worth Isn't on the Ballot
"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." — Ephesians 2:10
Where do you get your sense of worth?
This is something I battled before I went into the ministry. When I was in college, I had a double major. I majored in music and speech. These are outside performance things. Everything was about how others responded to me.
God gave me insight as a college student when He began to call me into ministry. I wrestled with answering the call because of the conflict in my flesh.
I said, "Lord Jesus, I am sensing that you want me to preach. I don't want to use ministry to meet some kind of psychological need that I have to be liked and applauded."
Here's what you need to hear today: Your worth is not based upon what other people think about you.
Not your boss's opinion. Not your spouse's criticism. Not your parents' expectations. Not your friends' approval. Not your social media followers. Not the number of likes on your posts.
Your worth was established by God when He created you in His image. Your worth was confirmed when Christ died for you. Your worth is not up for a vote.
Many of us live like our value is constantly on the ballot. Every interaction is an election. Did they approve of me? Did they like what I said? Did they think I was smart, funny, competent, spiritual?
That's exhausting. And it's a lie.
The Lord whispered to my heart, "Curt, I made you just like I made you. Make sure that the reins of your life are in My hands and I will direct you."
God made you. He doesn't make mistakes. He designed your personality, your gifts, your quirks. When you surrender the reins to Him, He'll use all of it for His glory.
Stop letting other people's opinions determine your worth. You've already been valued by the only One whose opinion matters. He paid for you with His Son's blood.
That settles your worth. Forever. It's not on the ballot anymore.
