What Compels You?
"For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again." — 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
What moves you to serve?
The message that God gave you does not involve church, communion, baptism, church membership, service, or ministry. The very message that sends us out to make a difference in the lives of other people is the cross of Christ.
That is the motivation. Paul wrote that the love of Christ compels us.
Not guilt. Not obligation. Not pressure from others. Not trying to earn points with God. The love of Christ.
When you truly understand what Jesus did for you—when the cross moves from information to revelation—something changes inside you. You can't stay the same. You can't stay seated. You can't stay silent.
His love compels you.
What will move you from your seat in this building into ministry in the days to come? It will be the power of the cross. Nothing else has staying power. Nothing else will sustain you through difficulty. Nothing else will keep you going when ministry gets hard.
Guilt will burn out. Obligation will wear thin. People-pleasing will exhaust you.
But love? Love keeps going. Love doesn't quit. Love compels.
When was the last time you meditated on the cross? When was the last time you sat in awe of what Jesus did? When was the last time His sacrifice moved you to tears?
If your motivation for serving has become anything other than love, you've drifted. Come back to the cross. Remember what He did. Let it move you again.
Christ's love compels us. Let it compel you today.
All I can say is, "Thank you Jesus for coming." Live like that and live with that kind of power.
