The Previous Step

"If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land." — Isaiah 1:19

Are you asking God for new direction while ignoring old instructions?

Don't expect the next step to be revealed if you haven't taken the previous step that God has already given you to do. This is a simple thought. Many of us are not doing what God has already told us to do. We are looking for a new Word from Him, and a new direction from Him.

God will never give you something new to do until you take care of the old that He has already told you to do.

Think about it. You're praying for clarity about your future, but you haven't obeyed what He showed you last month. You're asking for guidance about a major decision, but you're still holding onto that sin He told you to release. You want to hear His voice about the next chapter, but you haven't finished reading the current one.

With many of us, our ears are clogged because of personal sin in our lives. We don't hear very clearly. Some of that sin is disobedience.

Maybe you have given your life to Christ, but you have not been baptized. That is the next step. Maybe you have done that, but you have not learned what it means to be a giver. You are asking God to bless you financially. Are you honoring Him right now?

God isn't being silent. You just haven't done what He already said.

"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?" (Luke 6:46).

Before you ask God for the next step, take an honest inventory. What has He already told you to do that you haven't done? Start there.

Obedience unlocks direction. Take the previous step, and the next one will become clear.
