Active Waiting
"Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." — Psalm 27:14
What do you do when God seems silent?
When Jesus left, He told His disciples, "Wait in Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit comes." They had no idea what that would mean. They did not understand the full implications of that, but they were told to wait.
Waiting is not passive. It takes commitment and discipline to wait.
Many of us think waiting means doing nothing. We sit around frustrated, anxious, wondering why God isn't moving faster. But Biblical waiting is active, not passive.
When you don't know the next step, you can do the five "W's":
Wait — Not anxiously, but expectantly. Trust that God's timing is perfect.
Worship — Worship takes your eyes off yourself and puts your mind where it needs to be—on the Lord Jesus. Worship more than once a week. Worship all the time.
Word — Stay in the Word of God. If you are looking for a GPS coordinate in your life, you will find it in the Word of God. Sometimes God doesn't show us the next step because He wants us to discover what He has in His Word first.
Work — Do what He has shown you and given you to do until the next step. Be busy doing the Lord's work. "Work as unto the Lord!"
Witness — Share your faith. Have you ever thought that the reason God hasn't moved you more quickly to the next step is that He wants to connect you with someone?
God uses the waiting seasons. Don't waste them by sitting idle. Fill them with worship, Word, work, and witness.
Active waiting prepares you for the next step. Passive waiting just makes you frustrated.
Wait well.
