Get Over Yourself
"Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'" — Matthew 16:24
What's standing between you and God's will for your life?
Most of the time, the answer is simpler than we want to admit. It's not the circumstances. It's not other people. It's not even the enemy. The biggest obstacle between you and God's will is you.
We struggle with surrender because surrender means loss of control. It means saying yes before we know all the details. It means following a path we didn't choose down a road we didn't map. And everything inside us resists that.
We want God's will, but we want it to look like our plan. We want His direction, but only if it leads where we were already hoping to go. We want His blessing, but not His breaking.
In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed the hardest prayer any of us will ever face: "Father, if there's any way you can take this away... nevertheless, not my will, but yours be done."
That's the picture of submission to the Father's hand. Not negotiating. Not bargaining. Not throwing conditions on your obedience. Just surrender.
Are you fighting the Father's hand right now? Are you upset with His timing or His methods? Are you at odds with the plan He's unfolding in your life?
Then you don't get it yet.
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6).
God's will isn't hard to find. It's hard to accept. The problem isn't clarity. The problem is surrender.
Get over yourself. Get under His authority. And watch what He does when you finally stop fighting.
