An Encouragement For Mothers
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” - Proverbs 31:30
In our society and culture today, the majority of people’s lives are posted on social media. Almost everyone is posting about their house, their vacations, their jobs, and especially their kids. I can’t even begin to imagine the pressure so many mothers feel as they are constantly seeing updates about the success of other people’s children. I’m sure it can be exhausting, and sometimes even discouraging to be bombarded with other families’ highlight reel while you’re just trying to make sure your kids are fed, bathed, and in bed at a decent hour.
If you’re reading this and you’re a mom, or if you hope to one day be a mom, let me encourage you with something. Your Heavenly Father is not concerned with how great your family looks on the internet. He is much more concerned with you faithfully following Him and leading your children to do the same.
Years from now when your kids are all grown up (and they realize you’re smarter than they gave you credit for), they’re not going to remember all of the pictures and captions you posted about them online. Instead, they’re going to remember how you lived your life and modeled your faith. They will remember how you trusted your Heavenly Father, even when He wasn’t making sense. They’re going to remember how you remained faithful to the Lord when circumstances were tough and hope was dim. They’ll remember how you showed grace to them and to others, even if it wasn’t deserved.
Proverbs 31:30 says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” I hope this verse serves as a reminder to you that your Heavenly Father doesn’t expect you to have it all together, nor does He want you to make it seem that way to others. And if I was a betting man, I would say your kids feel the same way. The best thing you can do as a mom is to model well what it looks like to live a life surrendered to Jesus. My hope and prayer for you is that you will take that to heart and let that drive you as you serve God and your family in your role as a mother.
