Perfect Peace
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." — Isaiah 26:3
Where does your mind go when everything is falling apart?
There's an old story about a king who offered a prize for the painting that best captured peace. Artists submitted images of calm lakes, still mountains, and quiet meadows. But the winner painted something different: a thundering waterfall, dark storm clouds, wind tearing at the trees. And there, tucked into a crevice in the rock behind the crashing water, a little bird sat on her nest, perfectly calm.
That's peace. Not the absence of the storm. Peace in the middle of it.
Isaiah says God keeps in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast. And that peace doesn't come from calm circumstances. It comes from a mind fixed on Him.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:27).
The world's peace depends on everything going right. The moment the diagnosis comes, the account runs dry, or the phone rings at 2 a.m., it evaporates. But the peace Jesus gives holds steady when the storm is at its worst.
The key is where you fix your mind. If you keep replaying the worst-case scenario, anxiety will win every time. But if you steady your thoughts on Him, on His character, His promises, His presence, peace will guard your heart.
Build your nest in the Rock. Let the waters crash. And rest in the One who holds you through the storm.
