Great Is Thy Faithfulness

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." — Lamentations 3:22-23
 
Can you look back over your life and see His hand?
 
Jeremiah wrote these words while watching his nation burn. Lamentations is a book of tears. And yet right in the middle of all that grief, he stops and remembers something: God's mercies are new every morning. His faithfulness is great.
 
Even in the ashes, Jeremiah could see it.
 
I've lived long enough now to look back over a lot of years. And when I do, one thing stands out above everything else: God has been faithful. Through seasons I understood and seasons I didn't. Through answered prayers and unanswered ones. Through valleys I wasn't sure I'd come out of. He never once let go of me.
 
"The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it" (1 Thessalonians 5:24).
 
That's why an old hymn writer named Thomas Chisholm could pen the words, "Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father." He wasn't writing out of some dramatic experience. He was writing out of the steady, daily, morning-by-morning faithfulness of God across an ordinary life.
 
Every morning you wake up is fresh evidence. New mercy. New grace. A God whose compassions have not failed and never will.
 
Take a moment today and look back. Trace His hand through your years. Count the times He came through, the times He carried you, the times He was faithful when you weren't.
 
He has been faithful. And the God who has been faithful all this way will be faithful all the way home.
