You Belong to Him Now
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price." — 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
How do you feel about belonging to someone?
When Paul wrote to the Thessalonians about living to please God, he used a word picture of a Greek military command being passed down through the troops. Every soldier was expected to operate as one, following the same orders, moving in the same direction. There was no room for personal preference or independent agendas.
Paul called himself a doulos, which means bondservant or slave of Christ. Now I know some people don't like that idea. We prize our independence. We want to call our own shots. But here's what I've discovered over the years. Being a bondservant of Jesus is the most freeing thing in the world.
When you belong to Him, you're finally free from having to please everyone else. You're free from the exhausting performance of trying to earn approval. Your only assignment is to listen to the Holy Spirit and respond to His direction.
You see, if you're breathing today and you belong to Christ, your body is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. He actually resides within you. He reveals sin. He gives direction. He empowers obedience.
You're not your own. You've been bought with a price. And honestly, that's the best news you'll hear all day. Because the One who bought you loves you more than anyone else ever could. Whatever He wants, wherever He leads, you can say yes with confidence. You belong to Him now, and that changes everything.
