Truth Isn't Slanted
"And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." — John 8:32
Have you ever met someone who just didn't want to believe, no matter what evidence you showed them?
In my first pastorate in West Texas, I met the town atheist. His wife went to our church, and she was brokenhearted over him. He had embraced Christianity years before, but then something happened, and he said he no longer believed in God.
So I gave him that same book by Josh McDowell that had worked so well with my friend Tom. He read it cover to cover, and when we sat down to talk about it, I asked him what he thought. You know what he said? "I think it's slanted."
I looked at him with what I thought was my sensitive pastoral tone and said, "You gotta be kidding me." He said, "Yeah, I think it was written from a Christian perspective." I said, "Truth is truth. It's not a subjective thing. It's a fact."
Here's the reality. The reason people have trouble with the truth is they don't want God involved in their lives. They want to make excuses to do what they want to do, think what they want to think, and live how they want to live without the authority of the Word of God. Because if they look honestly at Scripture, they've got to say, "My life is out of line, and I need to change."
Truth isn't slanted. Truth is truth. And the beautiful thing is, when you finally embrace it, it doesn't trap you. It sets you free.
