Actively in Love
"Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord." — Romans 12:11
Is your faith active or passive?
Fall in love with Jesus. That Spirit will flow through your life and you will be glad to hang around other believers who you love. That will make a fulfilling life. That is what you are seeking.
But here's what you need to understand: It is not passive; it is very active. You are actively in love with Jesus.
Passive faith waits for something to happen. Active faith pursues Jesus daily. Passive faith hopes things work out. Active faith obeys regardless of feelings. Passive faith shows up on Sunday. Active faith serves all week long.
Too many Christians have settled into passive mode. They believe the right things. They attend church occasionally. They say grace before meals. But there's no fire. No pursuit. No passion.
That's not what Jesus called us to.
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30). Notice the word "all." That's not passive. That's every fiber of your being engaged in loving God.
When you're actively in love with someone, you think about them constantly. You want to be with them. You want to please them. You rearrange your schedule for them. You sacrifice for them.
Is that how you love Jesus?
Active faith reads the Word—not out of duty, but hunger. Active faith prays—not out of obligation, but desire. Active faith serves—not for recognition, but love. Active faith shares the Gospel—not out of guilt, but compassion.
Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4). When you actively delight in Him, He shapes your desires to match His.
Stop coasting. Stop going through the motions. Stop settling for passive, lukewarm faith.
Get actively in love with Jesus. Pursue Him with everything you have. That's where the abundant life is found.
