Fully Surrendering Your Life To Christ
Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her. – John 20:17-18
I want you to pay close attention to what Jesus says in today’s key verses. He tells Mary Magdalene, “I am returning to my father and your father, to my God and your God.”
Do you know what He was saying here? “You are part of a new family now because of the cross.” This is God's family. You weren't born into this world in God's family. We were born with our backs toward God, wanting to do what we wanted. But when we surrender our lives to Christ, we are born again into God's family. When we actually turn from sin and place our faith in Christ, God then becomes our God and God becomes our Father.
The Bible tells us very clearly that a Holy God cannot have a relationship with an unholy man, woman, boy, or girl. Just because you show up doesn't mean you get the prize. Just because you stand in line doesn't mean that you have actually accepted the gift of God, eternal life through Jesus Christ. You have to fully surrender your life to the Lord, acknowledge you are a sinner in need of a Savior, and choose to follow Him for the rest of your life.
Has there been a moment in your life when you turned from sin and placed your faith in Christ? I pray there has been. If not, today could be the day. And what a time to give your life to Christ – on Easter Sunday!
God wants you to be in His family. The way that you are adopted into His family is that you allow Him to adopt you. That means you throw your hands up and say, “Lord, I don't bring anything to you except my sin.” That’s all you need to bring. When you lay that at the cross of Christ and you receive what Jesus did for you, the shedding of His perfect, innocent blood to cover over and take away all of your sins, both past, present, and future, in that moment, you become part of the family of God. Has that happened to you yet? I pray that would happen to you today.
