Received, Not Just Heard
"For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe." — 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NKJV)
Are you hearing the Word or receiving it?
There's a difference. You can hear a sermon and forget it by lunch. You can read a passage and never let it penetrate your heart. You can nod along with truth and walk away unchanged.
But receiving is different. Receiving means welcoming it in. Inviting it to take up residence. Letting it work on you from the inside out.
Paul praised the Thessalonians because they didn't receive his message as the opinions of a man. They received it as what it actually was: the living, active, powerful word of God.
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit" (Hebrews 4:12).
When you approach Scripture as God's word rather than good advice, something shifts. It stops being information and becomes transformation. It stops being optional and becomes authoritative. It stops being background noise and becomes the voice that shapes your life.
The word of God is at work in you right now, if you'll let it. Not just informing you. Forming you. Changing you from the inside out.
Don't just hear it. Receive it. Welcome it. Let it do its work.
That's where the power is.
