Behind Locked Doors
"Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." — John 20:21
Have you ever felt so afraid that you just wanted to lock yourself away from the world?
The disciples knew that feeling. After Jesus was crucified, they huddled together behind locked doors, terrified that they were next on the religious leaders' hit list. They weren't out preaching. They weren't out praying. They were hiding, paralyzed by fear.
And that's exactly where Jesus met them.
The scripture says that even though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." He didn't wait for them to get their act together. He didn't wait for them to come out of hiding. He walked right through their barriers and met them in their fear.
Maybe you're behind locked doors right now. Maybe pain or shame or fear has caused you to shut everyone out, including God. You've convinced yourself that He can't reach you where you are, that you're too far gone, too messed up, too broken.
But locked doors have never stopped Jesus.
He appeared to His disciples in their worst moment, and He can appear to you in yours. It doesn't matter how locked down you are. It doesn't matter how thick the walls have become. If He can walk through solid doors, He can certainly walk through yours.
"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).
You don't have to unlock the door. You just have to be honest with Him about what's behind it. He already knows, and He's coming anyway.
