Even the Ability
"You may say to yourself, 'My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.' But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth." — Deuteronomy 8:17-18
Where did your paycheck really come from?
It's easy to think you earned it. You showed up. You worked hard. You put in the hours. The direct deposit hits your account, and you feel like it's yours because you made it happen.
But step back for a moment.
Who gave you the mind to learn your trade? Who gave you the health to show up? Who gave you the opportunity in the first place? Who sustains your breath, your heartbeat, your capacity to think and create and produce?
Every ability you have is a gift. Even the ability to earn wealth comes from God.
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights" (James 1:17).
This changes everything about how you view your resources. If it all came from Him, then holding it with a clenched fist makes no sense. If He gave you the ability to produce, then He can certainly be trusted with a portion of the return.
Generous giving isn't about impressing God or earning favor. It's about acknowledging reality. It's about saying, "Lord, this came from You, and I'm giving back because I know whose it really is."
You didn't build this alone. You couldn't have.
Remember where it came from. And give accordingly.
