Obedience in Every Area
"We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, 'I know him,' but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person." — 1 John 2:3-4
Is there an area of your life where you're not obeying God?
When you read the Word of God, do you obey it? In every area of your relationships, do you make your emotional decisions based upon the Word of God?
Let me get specific.
The Bible tells us that believers are not to be yoked together with unbelievers, especially in marriage. Many people try to practice "romance evangelism." They think, "I can win them to Christ." But God does not want believers dating non-believers. Why? Because anyone you date is a potential marriage partner.
You are not the best person to judge when you have been emotionally connected with that person. Many marriages are in a shaky condition today because one partner is a believer and the other is not.
What about your finances? When you read in the Bible what God wants you to do financially, do you make excuses about why you are not being obedient? Do you long to align every area of your life with the Word of God?
Here's a hard question: How many pages have you ripped out of the Bible because you don't like what it says?
Many people today believe only what they want to believe. They don't like this or that, and they think it doesn't apply today. Yes, God's Word does apply today.
We need to be careful that we do not create a belief system based upon a little bit of tradition, a little bit of cultural trends, and a lot of our own emotions. It is no wonder that the Christian community today is confused. Many people are more aligned with the culture than they are with the Word of God.
Being obedient to His Word is confirmation that you have had a conversion experience. If you truly know Him, you'll want to obey Him—not perfectly, but genuinely. In every area. Including the areas that are hard.
Where is God asking for your obedience today?
