Salt Prevents Decay

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." — Matthew 5:13

What happens when believers are removed from a culture?

Scripture tells us that believers will be taken out and snatched away with a violent force. If believers on this planet are taken out, the very salt and light of the world will be gone.

When you take out the believers who love Israel and love the Word of God, we will have a nation that has lost its direction. You can see how quickly things could turn.

Have you ever thought about what salt does? In the ancient world, salt was a preservative. Before refrigeration, salt kept meat from rotting. It slowed decay. It preserved what would otherwise spoil.

That's what believers do in a culture. We slow the decay. We preserve what is good. We hold back the rotting influence of sin.

When you live according to God's Word in your workplace, you're being salt. When you raise your children with biblical values, you're being salt. When you speak truth in a culture of lies, you're being salt. When you model integrity in a world of compromise, you're being salt.

But here's the warning: Salt can lose its saltiness. It can become so contaminated, so diluted, so compromised that it no longer does what salt is supposed to do.

Have you lost your saltiness? Have you become so much like the culture that you no longer preserve anything? Have you blended in so completely that no one can taste the difference?

God has placed you where you are to slow the decay. Your family needs your salt. Your workplace needs your salt. Your neighborhood needs your salt.

Don't lose your flavor. Don't blend in. Don't become useless.

Be salty. The world is rotting. And you're the preservative God has placed right in the middle of it.
