Be a Friend to Find a Friend

"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap." — Luke 6:38
 
Do you know what to do when you don't have any friends?
 
I've heard it countless times over the years, from students and adults alike: "I don't have any friends. I went to that church, that group, that event, and I didn't find any friends."
 
Here's the deal. You want a friend? Go out and be a friend.
 
Most people wait for friendship to find them. They show up somewhere, stand in the corner, and hope someone approaches. When no one does, they leave disappointed and convinced the problem is everyone else.
 
But friendship doesn't work that way. Neither does encouragement. Neither does any relationship God calls us into.
 
We often think Luke 6:38 is only about money. It's not. It's about everything. If you need encouragement, start being an encourager. If you need support, start supporting others. If you need a friend, start befriending people.
 
"A man who has friends must himself be friendly" (Proverbs 18:24 NKJV).
 
Yes, sometimes you'll trip over their rug. You'll give and not get back. You'll reach out and feel rejected. That's part of it. But the more you give of yourself away, the more others will eventually give of themselves to you.
 
Stop waiting to be found. Start finding others. The friendship you're looking for might be standing right next to someone who's waiting for you to make the first move.
