Focus on the Future
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18-19)
For many of us, when we go through problems, we look back and say, “I can't change yesterday, but it would really help if I could.” If you could just go back and change the past or make different decisions, you think your current situation would be better.
Yesterday will never become tomorrow! Because you can't change the past, stop looking in the rear-view mirror! You can't drive a car by constantly looking in the rearview mirror. (When you are backing up to find a parking place, that’s a different story.) The Christian life is not focused on backing up; it is looking ahead.
God wants you to pull off that rear-view mirror and begin to press forward in the future. Trust that He is making His living hope a present reality in your life. You need to pass through the middle of your problems, not around them.
As you walk through these tough times, you will grow in hope and trust. God will also use your journey to encourage other people. Why? He will do this not because you are special, but because you are loved and acceptable to Him. He wants you to be victorious.
The pathway to victory in your life is to use this ongoing living hope that is only found in Christ Jesus. God wants you to have that. I don't know what you are passing through right now, but I want you to know that God can use it for His Glory. Stop looking in the rearview mirror. Instead, focus on the present and the future.
