Your Relationship, Your Responsibility
"So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God." — Romans 14:12
Whose faith are you riding on?
You are responsible for your relationship with God. You will not have to give an account for what your mom believes or what your father believes, nor what your sister or brother believes. You will have to stand before God to give an account for what you believe.
We believe in the competency of the soul. We believe in the priesthood of believers. We believe your relationship with God is between you and Him. You will give an account. This is not for your parents, your brother, nor your sister.
Your relationship is between you and God. You don't have to ask me for permission. You don't have to come to me to confess your sins. I don't have that much time. The Bible teaches us that we are to confess our sins to each other. This kind of accountability and encouragement are important. Our forgiveness comes because of Jesus.
When you need to deal with something, God holds you accountable for your sins. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). We have a relationship with the Father because of Jesus. He holds each of us accountable for the decisions that we make.
We need to develop that relationship with Him. That is critical. How are things between you and Jesus? It is all about your decisions.
Stop hiding behind your family's faith. Stop assuming that because your parents took you to church, you're covered. Stop thinking that your spouse's relationship with God counts for you. It doesn't work that way.
You have your own soul. God has given you competency over it. You are fully capable of responding to Him directly. You don't need a mediator except Jesus. You don't need someone else's faith to piggyback on.
One day you will stand before God alone. Not with your family. Not with your church. Just you and Him. What will you say? How will you answer?
The time to settle that is now. Develop your own relationship with Christ. Make it real. Make it personal. Make it yours.
