Are You Living Like He's Coming?
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." — Matthew 24:42-44
You do not know on what day your Lord will come.
Jesus didn't say "if" He's coming. He said you don't know "when." That's a critical difference. It's not a question of whether. It's a question of timing.
And the point is this: You must be ready. Not someday. Not eventually. Now.
Are you living like Jesus could return today? I'm not asking if you believe He's coming back. I'm asking if you're actually living like it could be today.
Most of us aren't. We've pushed Christ's return so far into the future that it doesn't affect how we live now. We believe it intellectually, but we don't live it practically.
We make plans like we have unlimited time. We hold grudges like we'll never answer for them. We pursue comfort like this world is all there is. We accumulate stuff like we can take it with us. We put off obedience like there's always tomorrow.
But Jesus says: Keep watch. Be ready. Because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.
How would you live differently if you knew Jesus was returning next week? Would you forgive that person? Have that hard conversation? Stop wasting time? Be more generous? More bold? More loving?
Here's my challenge: Live that way today. Because you don't know when He's coming. It could be years. It could be today.
The owner didn't know when the thief was coming. You don't know when Jesus is coming. The difference is: His return is not something to dread. It's something to anticipate with joy.
So keep watch. Be ready. Live like you believe He's coming. Because He is.
