Worth the Sacrifice
What's one life worth? Would you endure beatings, imprisonment, and humiliation if it meant reaching just one person for Christ? Paul would. And he did.
In Philippi, Paul was beaten with rods and thrown into prison for preaching the Gospel. His body was broken, his feet locked in stocks, yet at midnight he and Silas were singing hymns to God. When an earthquake shook the prison doors open, the jailer panicked—if prisoners escaped, he'd forfeit his own life. But instead of running, Paul and Silas stayed.
The Bible tells us what happened next: "The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' They replied, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.' Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized" (Acts 16:29-33).
Was it worth it? Paul thought so. One family—a jailer and his household—came to know Jesus because Paul was willing to suffer for the Gospel.
Here's what you need to know: your investment in sharing Christ is always worth the sacrifice. Maybe God isn't calling you to prison, but He is calling you to faithfulness. That coworker who drives you crazy? Worth it. That family member who keeps rejecting the Gospel? Worth it. That small group you lead that feels like it's going nowhere? Worth it.
We don't measure ministry success by numbers. We measure it by faithfulness. God may use you to touch thousands, or He may use you to reach one person who goes on to change thousands. You'll never know this side of heaven.
But I can promise you this: when you stand before Jesus and see the lives that were changed because you were faithful, you'll know—every sacrifice was worth it.
Don't grow weary in doing good. One life is worth it all.
