Opposition Fuels Growth
"And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on Gentiles." — Acts 10:45
What happens when the church faces persecution?
Christianity was birthed in the midst of a world power that worshiped an emperor. Christianity flourished in the middle of political opposition. Nero lit his gardens by crucifying Christians along the road. He set Christians on fire when they would not surrender to his lordship. Believers refused to align with the political agenda of the day.
Why did they refuse? Because the Word of God was at work in their lives.
The early church didn't have political power. They didn't have cultural influence. They didn't have religious freedom. They faced brutal persecution. And yet—the church exploded with growth.
When there is martyrdom, the church grows and matures; it gets stronger in the face of opposition.
This makes no human sense. By every natural measure, persecution should have destroyed the church. But instead, it strengthened it. When believers were scattered by persecution, they spread the Gospel everywhere they went. When they were killed for their faith, their courage inspired others to believe.
We need to understand this truth today. Many Christians are terrified of opposition. They're afraid of what's happening culturally. They're worried about political trends. They think that if the culture turns against us, the church is finished.
But history proves the opposite. The church thrives under pressure. Comfortable Christianity produces shallow believers. Opposition produces committed disciples.
Do you realize that Christianity has unbelievable power? Why? Because of what Jesus said. God's Word will not pass away. The power of the Gospel transforms people's lives regardless of what kind of opposition they face.
Stop fearing opposition. Stop thinking the church needs cultural approval to survive. Stop worrying that if we lose political influence, we're done.
The early church had none of those things, and they turned the Roman Empire upside down. They didn't need the emperor's approval. They had the Holy Spirit's power.
The same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in you. That power doesn't need cultural permission. It doesn't require political protection. It works regardless of opposition.
Stand strong. Opposition is coming. But so is growth.
