Brand New "Want To's"
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" — 2 Corinthians 5:17
What changed when you gave your life to Christ?
When you know Him, suddenly you will begin to have new desires and new "want to's." What you used to want is no longer important. You want to please Christ. You want to do what He wants you to do. You want to know Him. You want to be in His presence.
Do you understand that salvation produces brand-new "want to's?"
This is one of the clearest signs that you've been genuinely converted. Your desires change. Things that once attracted you now repulse you. Things that once bored you now excite you. The old appetites fade, and new ones emerge.
Before Christ, you wanted to please yourself. After Christ, you want to please Him. Before Christ, you avoided Scripture. After Christ, you hunger for it. Before Christ, prayer felt like a chore. After Christ, it feels like a conversation with someone you love.
I'm not saying you become perfect. After you give your life to Christ, you still sin. We all do. But here's the difference—it bothers you now. You don't want to stay there. You want to get right with God and get back on track.
If you claim to know Christ but nothing has changed about your desires, you need to examine yourself. Real conversion produces transformation. The Holy Spirit takes up residence in your life and begins reshaping what you want.
Maybe you're still chasing the same things you chased before you "accepted Christ." Maybe nothing feels different. Maybe your desires are identical to the world's desires.
That should concern you. Salvation isn't just a prayer you prayed. It's a transformation that happened. New creation. Old gone. New here.
Ask yourself honestly: Do I have new "want to's?" Do I genuinely desire to please Christ? Do I long to know Him and walk with Him?
If the answer is yes, that's evidence of genuine conversion. If the answer is no, today might be the day you truly surrender your life to Him and let Him change everything—including what you want.
