You're Already a Saint
"To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ." — Romans 1:7
When do you become a saint?
The Bible says that when you become a child of God, you are a saint. You have been set apart. This is what the word means. It comes from the Greek word that describes holy.
I know you might not believe that, but it's the truth. When we become a child of God, we are saints. You don't have to wait for a committee to approve you as a saint. The Bible says you have been set apart. You are in the process of being sanctified.
The moment you turn to God, you are a saint. When you turn from sin, you are holy. You don't earn this status. You don't work your way up to it. You don't wait for some religious authority to declare it over you.
We believe in the priesthood of believers. Your relationship with God is between you and Him. You don't have to ask me for permission. You don't have to come to me to confess your sins. I don't have that much time!
The Bible teaches us that we are to confess our sins to each other. This kind of accountability and encouragement are important. But our forgiveness comes because of Jesus. Your relationship with God is all about your relationship with Jesus.
"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'" (John 6:14). We have a relationship with the Father because of Jesus. So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God (Romans 14:12). You are responsible for your relationship with God. You will not have to give an account for what your mom believes or what your father believes, nor what your sister or brother believes.
Stop waiting for human approval. Stop thinking you need more qualifications. If you've given your life to Christ, you are already set apart. You are already holy in His sight. You are already a saint. Now live like it.
