Lean Back
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." — Psalm 46:10
Are you trying too hard to figure everything out?
When it comes to the future—especially the return of Christ—we need to just lean back and not try to pick a date or a time. Remember, Jesus discouraged His followers from trying to pick a date or a time for His Second Coming.
We do know the season. Right now, we are in the season, and we need to be ready. But ready doesn't mean obsessed with timelines and predictions.
Some believers spend enormous energy trying to decode prophecy, calculate dates, and determine exactly when Jesus will return. They match headlines with Scripture verses and announce, "This is it!"
Jesus told us not to do that.
"But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father" (Matthew 24:36).
If Jesus Himself didn't know the hour, why do we think we can figure it out?
The timing of His plan is in His hands. Not ours. Our job is to be faithful, not to be fortunetellers.
Does God have another plan? No, this is His plan. The timing of His plan is in His hands. We need to just lean back.
"Lean back" doesn't mean be passive. It means stop striving. Stop anxiously trying to control what only God controls. Stop white-knuckling the future.
Trust Him. He knows what He's doing. He knows exactly when Christ will return. He knows exactly how history will unfold. He doesn't need your help figuring it out.
Your job is to walk faithfully today. Love people today. Share the Gospel today. Obey His Word today. Be ready today.
Let God handle the timeline. Let God manage the details. Let God orchestrate the future.
You lean back. Rest in His sovereignty. Trust His timing. Be faithful with what's in front of you.
He's got the rest.
