You Have His DNA
"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" — 1 John 3:1
Do you know you belong to God?
My children know they belong to me for a couple of reasons. They have some of my habits, unfortunately. They look like their mother, fortunately. Their DNA—both good and bad—is being passed on to them and their kids.
The same is true for the children of God.
When you gave your life to Christ, something supernatural happened. You were born again. You received spiritual DNA from your Heavenly Father. You became part of His family—not as an outsider adopted on paper, but as a true child with His nature inside you.
And just like physical children resemble their parents, spiritual children start resembling their Father.
You begin to love what He loves. You begin to hate what He hates. You develop His heart for people. You start seeing the world through His eyes. His characteristics begin showing up in your life.
This is confirmation that you belong to Him.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Corinthians 5:17).
You're not just trying to act like a Christian. You are one. You have His DNA. You're part of His family. The resemblance is there—and it grows stronger over time.
There is an entire book of the Bible that teaches us that we can really know that we are children of God. First John was written so that you may know—not hope, not wish—know that you have eternal life.
The Greek word for "know" is "ginosko." It means intimate knowledge. Deep certainty. Confident assurance.
God wants you to have that kind of knowing. Not arrogance. Not presumption. But the settled confidence of a child who knows exactly whose family they belong to.
Look at your life. Do you see the family resemblance? Do you see His DNA showing up in your desires, your attitudes, your reactions?
That's confirmation. You're His child. You have His DNA.
