The Zeal To Serve
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. (Romans 12:11)
Service is very important when it comes to following Jesus. God does not want you to sit on your blessed assurance and just live out your Christian life. He wants you to practice serving Him. However, if you don't keep your zeal alive, your spiritual fervor to serve will not be prominent. You won't want to serve.
If you have no zeal, it can still be recaptured. Can you remember the first time you gave your life to Christ? You were so excited.
When I think about new believers, I think of this little girl who was baptized in our church recently. She was jumping up and down as soon as she came up out of the water. She was so excited, and her dad had a great big smile on his face. When I saw that, I thought, “That's what zeal looks like.” Do you have the jumping type of zeal inside of you?
God wants you to spend time alone with Him. Your intimacy with Christ, your quiet time, reading your Bible, praying, seeking His face, and taking time in His presence every day will keep the zeal and the passion to serve alive.
If you don't want to serve, it's probably due to a lack of spiritual fervor. It can be recaptured if you have lost it. Allowing the passion of Christ within to drive us, draw us, and motivate us to serve will help us find our zeal again. When the zeal comes back, you will serve not because you have to, but because you want to serve.
