You Can’t Out-Give God
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38)
We mentioned how generosity is a major part of God’s character. He is a very giving Father who loves giving good gifts to His children. You might have heard it said, “You can’t out-give God.” When you read this statement, do you really believe it? Do you believe that when you give, you will receive more in return? Are you trusting that God will give you even more than you gave Him?
You might be skeptical about this concept, but Jesus stated this promise about God very clearly during His earthly ministry. He said, “For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38) If Jesus believed that God would surpass our generosity, don’t you think we should believe it, too?
When God makes promises in His Word, He keeps those promises. He wants us to hold Him to His Word, believing that He will follow through. Of course, He might not give to you in the way you are expecting, or by your timing. However, Jesus promises that God will always out-give you; and you can cling to that promise.
You might be saying, “I don’t have enough money to give to God like I desire.” It’s great that you want to give a lot to the Lord. If you don’t start giving now from what you have, you won’t be in the habit of giving when you have more to give. If you only have a small amount to give now, just give this until you can give a little more. As you continue to be faithful with your giving, you will be amazed at how God will bless you in return.
