Second Chances
No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. (John 1:18)
We simply cannot understand how God works or what He desires for our lives. We can easily be confused about the direction He is taking us.
When we are confused, we must look at John 1:18. We need to pay close attention to that last phrase, “has made him known.” In the Koine´ Greek language, this descriptive phrase means, “to draw out as in a narrative.” This verse is saying that the words and works of Jesus, and the life of Jesus are revealing who God is, what God thinks, how He wants us to relate to Him, and how He responds to us. We must look at this phrase if we want to better understand God’s character.
Two of the greatest attributes of God’s character are His mercy and grace. We should thank the Lord that He has given us so much grace and has given us many second chances. He is always faithful. He keeps coming after you, day after day, never giving up. Why? Because He loves you, and He cares about you.
Furthermore, there is nothing you have ever done or ever will do that will separate you from God’s love or God’s ability to use your life for His glory. We don’t have to be discouraged when we make mistakes. As you study God’s Word and learn more about His character, I pray that you will remember He is the God of second chances. He is merciful and gracious toward His children; and you can never do anything bad enough to change that.
